Who's Going To The USGP In Austin...
...as well as the Hill Country PCA BBQ event at the Salt Lick Pavilion?
My oldest son and I are flying to San Antonio Thursday for the race weekend. We have tickets for the upper seats in grandstand #12--but not with the PCA contingent. I also purchased tickets to the PCA BBQ Saturday night after qualifying. Should be a lot of fun. I'll wear some kind of Porsche gear (hat or shirt) to identify with the brand (I will be buying some F1 gear to wear as well). If you see a grey-haired guy with Porsche branded something walking with a bit of a limp accompanied by my handsome, smart 32 year-old son--that's me! Stop and say hello. ![]() It's been a great F1 season, the championship could be settled this weekend in favor of Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull or extended to Brazil by Alonso and Ferrari. I like Alonso but have never been much for Ferrari (unlike half the F1 fans in the world), so I'm leaning to Vettel and Red Bull. Was sorry to see McClaren fade a few races ago. Hope to see a few Pelicans in Texas this week!

If you find yourself "over it" call me and we'll meet at Sam's Town Point for a brew: Josh 512-627-7023, I'll be around and you can check out my inert 911T.

I had planned on it, and visiting the inlaws in Austin offered a rationale for the wife. Then I went on-line to get tickets and found out what it cost. Absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!

I'll be there (no travel since I live in Austin
). I have three seats in the PCA section of Turn 12, and just found out I need to acquire two more - this could be interesting (and expensive).

I'll be there. I was at Catalunya in may, and since this race is much closer, I decided to go. I'll be in turn 12.

I'll be there from Thursday to Sunday. Is there any sort of Pelican meet planned?

Any suggestions on hotels? I heard that maybe the prices were due to higher expectations and that there might be some softening. I have passes but not really sure of the logistics. I don't want to try and park at the race, I assume the best way would be to try and find some sort of shuttle. Anyone on the forum that has this situation wired, so to speak?
Also, where might Pelicans be found?

I am going, turn 13. will be wearing an Arrows mechanic shirt on race day.
re: previous post, you can't park at the track w/o a parking pass. shuttles are only way (or helicopter).

We're staying in Austin by using rewards points. That way the rates were normal, 20,000 pts/night instead of $499/night for purchase. We will drive to the parking lot at 15th and Trinity for a shuttle to the track (as per instructions from COTA via email and with tickets). Just checked the Marriott site, there appears to be plenty of choices but the rates are $300-$549/night. Those are rooms that would ordinarily be $99-$199/night. Pretty outrageous. Initially I was going to stay in San Antonio and make the hour+ drive, until I checked into using points.
I've not heard of a Pelican gathering, that's why I signed up for the BBQ in hopes of meeting some of the great people from this site. Sounds like jhlassere in Austin is inviting a meeting at a local pub (see his post above). I don't imbibe, but if a group was gathering I would be up for it--I'm certain they serve soft drinks. What's the best Tex-Mex in Austin? I would rather meet there.

Did not think about Hilton points...may try to talk my wife into using some...she's not going, so fat freaking chance of that working...
I did see a decent rate (relatively speaking) but it was on the Northside, which is the total opposite side from the race....correct? I plan to wear my red Tshirt from the Tip Top bar in Monaco, hopefully some of us can meet up.

I decide it was going to be too much hassle so I gave my tickets away.
