Curiosity with key FOBS

Rx'd a new one from Pelican, as well as a new blank,..locksmith made quick work of it. THEN, I noticed something that looks a bit different.

Clearly, my original is worn, but the colors look to be black and silver,..which would match the wheel centers on my '89 Silver Anniversary Edition.

Do any other owners of the S.A. Edition have an original key FOB from 89? Very curious on this detail.

Silver Crest on Key Head

Have owned several 1989s and all came from the factory with the silver crest mounted in the key head. Perhaps the key crests were changed to full color when the front hood crest was changed to the black "PORSCHE" at the top.

silver crests came first, followed by the color crest mfg. could not say what year that happened

dshepp806 11-18-2012 01:29 PM

I knew it!!!!!!! Now,..where to find the proper key FOB (head) for my year car...

Thanks for the input!

Weird, I swear I read it was the other way around. Oh well Doyle you can purchase just the silver black crest and swap it if you want.

dshepp806 11-18-2012 01:55 PM

Damned right I will!!!!!!!!!!!!! Matches the car much better (hehehe).

I'll give my current one to the Wife to use (in an emergency),..order another blank and do it again....

Thanks to all!

I'd change that picture by cropping out the key portion. It would take about 15-20 min with a file to make a dupe of your key... (added an altered version above to edit your post with...)

Good, you saw it.
I photochopped it after realizing I was continuing the problem.

Wow that's some attention to detail! I hardly look at any of my keys for any vehicle - so long as they work. LOL.

Good luck getting it sorted OP.

dshepp806 11-18-2012 05:12 PM

The OP has already sorted it out,..thanks! Proper parts are on their way!!!!!!!

Glad I cropped my pic!!!!!!!!!! (hehehe)

Key heads

For reference, my two '85s came with original pewter-colored crests on key heads, so am confident that version was used in '85.

Thanks Jon
