Texas vehicle inspection question
So, going to be moving to Texas next spring (Georgetown, Tx), wondering about the vehicle inspection. How rigorous is it? Will my typical 82 SC have any problems? Leaks a little oil, no smoke (except on startup occasionally).
Just wondering about the process. Just one of million things to do. Thanks Jay

Jay,
Not to worry. They test the breaks and make sure the lights work. Your car won't even need exhaust testing. They will take it for a spin. Reg as a antique and you only have to renew the sticker every few years. Costs are under $35. BTW - Georgetown is the birth place of Dr Pepper!

I believe that is Waco.
Yep, Williamson County - you will not have any issues with inspection. Just make sure the lights all work.

I thought it was Dublin... Can't you still get a Dublin Dr. Pepper there?
![]() Anyway... everyone's advice above is good. I found it was more a time waster than something to be worried about. It's been a few years since I lived in Dallas, but I took a 924S I had to have emissions done right after getting it going again after a few years of being parked. The "large particulate" was close to the limit but it still passed. I imagine that was due to large carbon buildup. The following year, after regular use, it was much cleaner. Long story short, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Oh... I'm not sure the age at which you aren't subjected to emissions tests, but at the time, the 924S was still under 20 years... just. |

I dont have any issues in Metro Houston. Its safety only. lights, horn, air in tires. 10 minutes, $15, done. We have a rolling 25 year in Tx even in major metro areas. this incl regular tags. no need for antique tags to get this.

I moved there from FL years ago and we dont have inspections in FL so when I got to Texas I didnt know what to expect with my heavily modified WRX that I had at the time. I ended up tricking their system by resetting my cars computer and driving around for an hour at super slow speeds before going back to get tested a 3rd time (I failed the first 2). Different counties in TX have different rules, Williamson is pretty tough I was told. But since you don't have an OBDII connector they won't be able to test your car other than visually. And they didn't even bother to visually inspect my exhaust or they may have seen that both of the cats were removed.
