It's really cool to see a guy like Billy Ray Cyrus who could own any Porsche he wanted drive an old classic like that. Awesome mullet!

God, what a heart-warming story. Talk about buying a car with a known history! What I would give to have some of my dad's old cars in concours condition, the '67 Mustang w/ 289 Hi-po option, the '72 240Z w/ headers and mags, and those aren't even Porsches! Being from the rust-belt, (Minnesota), our old cars were made into soup-cans long ago.

I can't believe the guy went to the trouble to track down the original owner after 30 years! The photos in the slide show are great. Can you imagine having a photo of yourself in the Porsche that brought you home from the hospital... then getting to own the car?

That's funny, as I too actually came to own the car that brought me home from the hospital as a newborn. It was a near perfect, all original '72 Volvo 164E that was virtually new when I was born. My father kept it until I was 16, when he gave it to me with 240K on the clock. In all that time it never had a valve job or an overhaul -- just a single respray at Piper's in Culver City and a couple of rebuilt trannies. That car was a tough mother! Sadly, it was hit from behind in the early 90's. State Farm paid out $6500 on it (uninsured motorist coverage), which was about $2K more than the original sticker (I still have it). Only in California...

Apparently the laws of thermodynamics do not apply in California; the car looks like it's been in a stasis field. Good story and slide show. Jim

Porsche is one of a handful of marques to which a story like this can apply.

Hey guys, first post here and I found it ironic and funny that I own the 911 I came home in from the hospital. It's funny, we have some family pics of me being loaded into the car in my baby seat and also one of my mom standing pregnant with me next to the 911 on one of my parents frequent trips down to Santa Barbara in their younger years. Alright, well that was a nice first post....night you all.

later,

amir

I forwarded the link to the story to the Panorama editor. Seems like the type of story they would print.

Of course, excellence doesn't do e-mail (?). Maybe someone from this board who lives in CA can e-mail the guy, do a freelance story and send it to excellence. If you do, don't forget my finder's fee!

I'm truly impressed at the character of this man, to seek out my dad after 30 years and honor the agreement they made so long ago. Spencer is an honorable fellow, and we were glad to have the pleasure to meet him.

That is a great story. Spencer is, indeed, a man of charater and morals. My prayers are with him.
