Introductions are in order (Weissach content)
Greetings my fellow Porsche enthusiasts.
I'm Dan from Wisconsin. I wanted to start off by thanking our host, Pelican Parts, for creating this space for all of us. It is such a great resource. I also wanted to thank all of the members for sharing your knowledge. I'd still be trying to figure out how to work the heater controls if it wasn't for you. :D After years of owning watercooled VW's, I finally saved enough to purchase my first 911. Like most here on Pelican, it was a long time goal of mine to have a Porsche in my garage. My youth was spent at Road America, and after seeing so many 911's I knew that someday I had to own one. After searching for a months I ended up finding the perfect car for me. A 1980 Weissach 911. Quick background on the car. I believe this car has spent most, if not all of it's life in the Midwest. Chicago area at first. I purchased the car from a guy who owned it about 8 years, and lived in Upper Michigan. It's clean, but not pristine. I've owned a few show cars, and didn't want another garage queen. It has 97K, and needed a clutch asap. Typical "while I'm in there" deal. We also fixed some oil leaks, seals, new oil lines, SSI's, muffler, wevo coupler/shifter, etc., left my bank account a little lighter than I'd hoped. It was worth every penny though. Fantastic looking car, and great photography. I just bought an SC this past spring, and I too grew up working on VW's, Golfs mainly.
Whereabouts in Wisconsin are you? I'm in Milwaukee, and I've found some nice roads to run around here. |

It's called a rig shot.
My friend Ken's is a custom made, carbon fiber, tube that is held to the car with special suction cups. After shooting you remove the tube in photoshop. :) Pic for reference http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...he/rigshot.jpg |

Yours looks great! I have never seen one with plaid inserts, if those are original I wouldn't change them! Pretty rare car. |

Dude, if you bought the car to enjoy, then by all means the sky is the limit as to how much you can modify it... It looks great as it is, but don't feel as if you can't customize because of other's opinions - do what makes you happy and in the long run, that's exactly what's gonna happen, so enjoy many miles of motoring and congrats!

Nice car - congrats! I like the plaid - it's original, and screams '70's!!'...very cool. Is it still available, if you were to grow to like it and want to keep the car original?
And a question regarding that photo boom -- how does it not shake? It looks like you are using a relatively slow shutter speed to get the blur of the road, but the car is pretty clear...I would think with the weight of the camera hanging out there at the end of a long pole it would be bouncing like a big dog. |

Mr.Doback - I've met "Larry Appleton" a few times a various shows. I've been on Vortex for
10+ years now, and still have a lot of close friends from the forums. OttoB - I totally agree with you. Although the car is fairly rare, there will be a few modifications that she will get. If I don't mind putting Billet Wheels on a golf, the 911 will get some different yet tasteful. Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it! Dave 911 - Great question. For the boom shots the car is actually not running. We were shooting at about F8 with a 1 sec shutter speed to get the motion blur. The car was pushed (5mph-ish) to keep the boom steady, and vibration to a minimum. Although the carbon fiber boom is pretty damn rigid. :D Cheers! -Dan |
