Bridgehampton Racetrack: It ain't over 'til it's over!
According to a recent article in the local rag, in the Hamptons, called 'Dan's Papers' there is a someone by the name of Guy Frost who is still battling to preserve what is left of the Bridgehampton racetrack.
For those of you who are not familiar with this track (me included) this track was one of the best racetrack in the US until some idiots descided to demolish it and build a golf course ![]() Evidently there are several lawsuits that have been filed against the golf course (which was built on the track) This may all be in vain, but who knows maybe the racetrack will be brought back to it's former glory. ![]() Rgds Ben [This message has been edited by 86ragtop (edited 08-15-2001).] |

This encouraging news, I did my first DE at the Bridge and a Skip Barber 3-day course there and went back several times for DE with Metro NY club. This track is amazing to drive, you never got bored. I camped out at one DE and walked the track in black of night and I swear you can still hear Al Holbert's Can-Am car screaming though the Echo Valley turns. Losing this track to bunch lame gofers is truely a tragidy in motorsports history, LONG LIVE THE BRIDGE!!!

I seen a window decal that I really agree with, as long as some are setup as road circuts.

The resurrection of "The Bridge" would be cause for great celebration. Certainly I'd be singing "Happy days are here again" as I drove there on Route 27.
I have alot of track time at the Bridge. Its greatness cannot be understated. It is my favorite track ever (with the Glen a close second). Let's really hope for this one... |

The best bet we have is that the slowing economy both dries up the investment money behind the golf course idea and shrinks the likely pool of golf club purchasers to the point that it is not feasable to do the project. In the meantime, maybe we can get a group of investors or a nonprofit group to buy the track and keep it safe. In the meantime, I'll volunteer pro bono time to help with whatever lawsuits are flying. Maybe we can make the whole process so expensive that the track stays the way it is. I mean golf, who needs it? They have plenty of golf courses. We need all the tracks we can get.

Living in an area that doesn't understand road courses it doesn't mean much locally. It is interesting however, that last tuesday a small town about thirty miles south of here turned downed a zoning request that would have started construction of a roundy-round.
On the plus side is the national news from the PGA that new golfers are just replacing the old ones. There has been a increase in golf courses but not players. I wish you all luck in your efforts. Every road course should be nurtured. If you don't, there will be no place left that we can turn right at speed. Good luck, David Duffield |
