window motor replacement

ok, my 86 911 targa passenger window has been very fiinickly lately. slow up and down. and now it won't go up at all. so i presume the motor needs replacing. in your opinion how difficult a job is this? and from what i see why is it the passenger side motor thats goes more frequently. thanks almighty pelican guru gods

If the not going up sitch that you've got now is accompanied by the motor moaning and groaning and the courtesy lights dimming from the load, it may be something as inexpensive as lubing up the ol' mechanism or frame adjustment. There's been a thread surfacing recently about replacing the motors/drive gear, so try to find that one 'cause there was a wealth of info in it.

Ooh, and your last question... I'm guessing that it's because it sees a minor percentage of the use that the driver's door does, ergo the regulator tends to seize when the grease congeals and corrosion at the pivot points bind 'er up.

If you are willing to DIY, try the remove clean, lube before dropping coin on this expensive part.

Try switching the switches around to make sure it is not a continuity issue, fouled up connectors, especially grounds, take good pics as you swap.

I am just starting the same project and am using the following post - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/400362-power-window-height-adjust.html. My motor is bad so i bought a new one. Does anyone have a good resource for info on adjusting the window movement after replacing the motor. i've had a devil of a time adjusting windows on other cars and am not looking forward to doing it on my 1988 930. The directions I have are rather vague about the finer points of window adjustment. Thanks.

Had the same situation, and after cleaning and greasing, no diff. I ended up replacing both motors and now they are speedy. The replacement is not difficult, just fiddley. Be sure to buy a ratcheting 10mm wrench to get to one bolt which is tough to get to behind the inside sheet metal. Our sponsor sells the motors as well as a few other vendors.
