AC Recirculation?

In my quest to make the 911's air conditioning more efficient, does anyone know if the AC system in a 3.2:

a) takes the exterior air, cools it and sends it into the cabin?

or

b) recirculates the interior air, cools it, and sends it back into the cabin?

If it cools the hot exterior air, that is certainly not efficient, and I would prefer to rework the air ducting so it recirculates.

SteveW...I never took my A/C seriously...If I did I would configure my own system w/ high CFM and direct full cooling to driver ..w/ custom/directed ducts, and larger system hardware/contraptions...IMO, you may be the type of guy to build an exotic system....That would be an exotic project w/digital cam......Ron

Steve,

I believe the AC is recirculated. The nutty climate control system allows fresh air to be vented independently via the top two sliders on the panel. If you close the vents by sliding the top lever all the way to the left, the recirc AC is the only air source (assuming heat's off of course). You can blend fresh air in the cabin with the recirc'd AC by opening the vents to either the defrosters, floor, or both. Note that the blend isn't achieved from the same vents (i.e. AC and fresh literally mixed); it takes place as the air from different sources comingles in the cabin.

The A/C air is recirculated through the return air opening behind the wooden floor board on the passenger side.

Thanks guys. Ok, well I guess there's no additional efficiency to be gained there.

Room for improvement.

I believe their is some improvements to be made here. The carpeting at the passengers feet is restricting the air flow. I'm working on making an improved floor board that will add in increase the recir air flow. Recir air is also picked up from the tunnel under the drivers floor board.

Derk...you take AC seriously..how about a small fan to increase efficency, triggered by AC sw. I would think that anything to increase air flow thru the restriction of the present sys. is good.......Ron

Hotlanta

Well, when you live in the hot south, AC is not an option it's a way of life. Some people have add a fan at the rear condenser to aid in air flow for removing heat. But the area under the pass floor board is very small. I think the evaporator fan is more than powerful enough if their is no restrictions.
