Looking for tips on how to identify specifics of my 74 911

Alright. A few weeks ago I picked up my first Porsche, a 1974 911. It's got a fair amount of history and documentation, but as I'm going though paperwork and determining exactly what information is important to me for replacement parts etc, I am finding myself asking more questions than answering. Since most of these are usually just knowing where to look any recommendations on the best way to answer these questions for my specific questions? (books / forums / members I should bribe with beer). To give you an idea of some of the questions I'm trying to identify here are some:

I have paperwork that states a full 3.2 rebuilt was put in the car in '99, however the engine code is 930/04 (i.e. a 78 3.0L). Any other way to identify if this is accurage aside from a stroke/bore measurement?
How can Identify exactly which FI management system is installed?
Why in spite of not knowing exactly what's in the car is it so damn fun to drive? (-;

Thanks.
Jason

Well, one specific question has been answered. Looking under the drivers seat I found a pretty little black box enblazen with 'Motronic'. At least I can identify that ;)

Why don't you post a photo of the engine. The motronic ecu's are generally aluminum.

Did you read the 930/04 number off the engine, or did you just read it off the paper work you received? What is the actual serial number on the engine?
Pictures definitly help.
