Up-Grade Wshield...Opnions
I dodged a golf ball size stone in Phoenix in the left lane thrown by some female in a semi/ construction machinery in the left lane..Didn't know big rigs could be in left lane..She was performing good during Phoenix rush/work traffic. all she needed was PD/FD emergency lights and a siren with a massive air horn...anyway, I ducked but my wshield will soon be a memory...I think I want ' 88 911 w/Ac..it apears darker tint than the smashed wshield.. with a dark top band...It will not match current/original Ac tint "77....I figure PPG is the best for non-concours street...It could lead to further glass replacement...this car is more fun than toon town...I could/would like opnions.....Ron

I would only use (or allow to be used) OEM glass, gasket and trim (however, I thought the windshield was the same from about '71-'84).
Just my opinion, Jerry M |

Insert canned response No. 1.
FWIW, I installed a 993 windshield and 964 trimleess gasket on my 78SC. It has the outer edges darkened, a deep green tint along the top and internal antenna. I thought it might look funky when I purchased it, but it was only $50. I really like the modern windshield. The green tint does not look green when installed and it goes very well with my dark tinted windows and black car.

Paul,
Where did you get WS for $50.00? Was it used from junk yard? TIA,

It was an automotive glass dealer. I jsut picked up the yellow pages and started calling. They originally wanted $75 but got the guy down to $50. The windshield came off a lease vehicle that had to go back to the dealer. There was nothing wrong with it, unless it was the internal antenna and I wouldn't know because I don't use it.

Ron, e-mail me...I have a cell phone number to give you. MMARSH says he might be able to meet you for lunch or something down there. I gave him your cell #, your brother's address, but don't think any e-mail I sent you would go anywhere but NY? The windshield ding got worse on your way down there? I was afraid it might...

I'm tellin' ya. Auto glass is a racket. From the right source, good glass can be only $50 per piece. Installers sometimes PAY YOU to replace glass, if you have insurance. PPG glass is at least as good as OEM, I must say, though it is rare that anything aftermarket is as good as German. With glass it is. Or better.
All glass is tinted. It's usually tinted green, though you can't tell. And then there's the optional strip across the top. Your choice.
