Advice Needed: RSR front fenders Should I buy?
For my ST project I need RSR-ish fenders in front...
I have no knowledge of bodywork... I have a seller selling these... I originally planned to get the early fenders I have, put on turbo 930 front flares, then have some custom metal to extend down past the light box... Or I can get these... With my untrained eye I see some rust, esp at the bottom...some bondo...but I am promised these are steel flares...and look to be butt welded... I can use my fenders as donor for metal (esp the lower part) and other parts as well... The car is no to be concours...it will be street and track... so what do you think is the better and cheaper option??? How much should I offer this gentleman??? Thanks guys http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-012S.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-013S.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-014S.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-015S.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-016S.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-017S.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-018S.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-019S.JPG |
Nice shoes...
They seem a bit needy of work. Factor in the cost of modifying your fender, plus the cost of the flares, then minus the amount/condition... -Wayne |
With little body work experience I would stay away from those. Heck, even with lots of body work I would stay away from those.
Looks like the best part about them is the flares. I thought only the factory RSR flares had the filler piece. |
Looks like too much work to me.

If they were free, or almost free, I'd give them a try myself because there would be nothing to lose and I would do the work myself. I would hate to think how much it would cost to have those taken to a usable, rust free condition. On the other hand I've seen worse taken to concourse condition. Are these really rare? They still look NASTY!

well I have the fenders (early)
300 for turob flares...prob around 500-800 to weld...and probably another 200-300 to do the custom flare part... so we are talking 1400 on the high end... I know he wants my 964 cams that I have lying around...do you guys think it is a fair straight up trade? I also know of a pair of 964 cams for 200.00 so I can give him 2 sets (which he wants)...good trade??? anyone else with P-car body experience??? |
82,
They look pretty rough to me. I think they would need to be dipped or media blasted to see what's underneath and then decide what to do. If having the real deal is important to you, then it may be worth the effort. If you are good with the 930 profile and your fenders are clean/straight, I'd consider welding a set of 930 flairs to them. Just my opine. Mark |
My opinion:
They are shot. To death and beyond. The mounting flanges look full of holes, the bottom part is swiss cheese, even the flares are rusted at the front. Unless the seller can prove they were on Peter Gregg's car, they are worth about nothing. I have fought soooo much with rust, I think you'd be better off making your own from new 930 flares. <i>" ....the bottom part is swiss cheese..."</i>
And this is coming from a guy who - I'm certain - knows his Swiss cheese! :D -- Curt |
