disassembly question

How long would it take you to disassemble an early 911 such that you could send the tub, fenders, doors etc for paint and bodywork?

My question is a little vague 'cause I'm hoping for lots of wisdom in the replies ;)

Maybe my question is a dumb one. What I was asking about rough time estimates (weeks, months?) to drop the engine/tranny, pull out the interior, remove the suspension, gas tank, trim, windows, etc.

That's a difficult question as it depends on your skills, workshop equipment (hand tools or not), etc...

Let's say you have all need, then I think it takes about 30hrs, easy more if missing any tool such as impact wrench

Taking it a part is easy. One person working alone for 8 hours could easily strip an early 911 in a few days with just basic hand tools. Obviously, the more care you take in removing the parts cataloging them, etc will add time.

I'm surprised the guy's are being nice for this post. Is the car rusty? Do you have a lift? Are you a skilled mechanic? Do you have tools? The question is far to ambiguous to answer.

This is my thread and it took me about 5-6 full days. Cataloging everything (I used over 300 ziploc bags) with detailed notes and tons of pictures for reassembly took the longest amount of time. Having all of the correct tools is key. Please keep in mind that my car was relatively rust free and that YMMV

Leave it on the street in some cities and it would be stripped in minutes...LOL

Lets just say that one bolt could take days.........if it is really rusty and you need to save the part. Soaking, heating and the time in-between can be days on a rusted installation that has never been apart since the factory put it together. If the key is no damage time is your friend. It once took me 2 weeks to remove the rusted knurled knob on the odometer reset cable for a long hood. The knob and cable are NLA and difficult to find.
