Looking for SC Sump Screen Update
Does anyone have/ or know of a supplier of the updated oil sump screen that came out in about 1980 for SC's. This one had a venturi type contour to it to stop oil starvation due to "spirited driving".
Our local Porsche supplier says these items are NLA from the factory. Thanks in advance. Chuck |

Chuck:
Part number 930.107.314.00 is the updated "bowler" style of anti-cavitation sump screen. Check this number against what you are currently using to source this part - I would be pretty surprised if Porsche did not have this available (but then again where are the seals for the "early" Targas?). A junkyard search might be worthwhile. You will note the clear difference in that the updated part features mesh around the rim of the bowler only, with metal at the topmost part where once it was mesh If you have any questions about any wrecked car possibly carrying this part that you might strip it from, note that the oil drain plug will be in a 9'oclock orientation as you stand at the back of the car facing forward. That is, the drain bolt will "aim" towards the driver-side rear wheel. Hope this helps, John EDIT: You do not state your car year, but I assume a '78/9? In all events, if so, consider upgrading oil pressure relief valves. You can ID this as the original was ~24mm in diameter with a standard screwdrive slot. First upgrade used 23mm with groove *around* the perimeter, with current upgrade used 17mm hex machined into the 23mm circular base. This all from UpFixin' Vol 8.

I was looking for the updated venturi screen a few months ago. I could not even find a used one. Foreign Intrigue had a new one. You might try them. Good luck.

I found one on eBay a couple of months ago ... only bidder! You have to really look close at the ads, because the ad only said 911 sump screen ... luckily there was a picture!

Thanks Gents,
I shall give Foreign Intrigue a try. FYI they list a new screen at $85 plus change. Regards, Chuck |

For anyone interested,
I found an used oil sump screen from a Porsche dismantler for $45. I see that there is a brand new one for sale presently on Ebay. I will be interested to see how high it goes. Chuck |

It looks like this part will work for the early engine as well? I have noticed my oil pressure droping a bit going around the track in tight right handers. Will thiss cure my problem on my 72.. "oil pressure drops to 40 psi were it should be about 65.

Well, it might work ... but then again, maybe no real help until you do the 'bypass mod' ...
Other small changes that could help would be to replace your relief springs, and also those restriction adapters to the cam tower spray bar. Here is a thread with all of the latest part numbers: oilpump modification I suspect that all of the updates and replacements would work together and help your problem somewhat.

When I updated my 78, I got all the parts from Stoddards. I forget what the total bill was, but I remember the screeen was in the $80 range. Worked great at bringing the temps down on the track.
