Interior color help
Many years ago when I was a very wise young man I decided to update my car, as a result I ditched my original interior for a more modern looking interior. Since I a not as smart as I once was I think it is time to Put the old interior back in. The problem is I do not recall exactly the original color.
Is it possible to determine the interior color from the vin? Will a COA tell me? It was tan. The car is a 74 S Targa. Camel, Cork, Caramel? I am leaning toward the Camel. I do not think it is cork as I recall that has a blotchy look to it. This was a very uniform tan like the photo below. ![]() Any help is appreciated. You are correct, this is not cork, and is it also a bit darker than Champagne.
So many nuances... I got in trouble when buying dye... ![]()

I had a 75 and it was closer to camel. I think cork was not a usual color in 74.

I still have the vinyl that I stripped off the door cards on my '74. I think its probably the same color you're describing. If you want I could send you a piece if you want to try to get an exact match. You can see it in this pic from the FS ad.

Reifle,
I think cork is a mottled not so uniform in color. But I could be wrong. |

In 1974, that color was called "Tan". It's not the same as Cork, which is a later color. Champagne is also a much later color. Many of the vinyls, including tan, had a somewhat mottled appearance. The leathers in the same color did not.

Russet
My 73.5 is similar in color to that and is described as russet on the COA.

Here's a picture of Tan from 1972. Note the difference in the eveness of the color between the leather on the seats and the vinyl on the door panels. Look familiar?

Javadog the color of both the seat and door card are to tan (to much brown) from what I recall. The color was more yellow/orange. Although the slight color variation on the door card may be correct.

It could just be the photo, as it's useless to try to get an exact match on a computer monitor. Here's the same door, same car, different lighting.
Regardless, the color was called Tan that year. ![]() |
