Help with hesitation (missing)
 

Hello,

Bought a 78 911sc about a week ago. Had PPI done and everything was good. Drove car pretty much all week and it has run great. Last night when leaving work after the car had been sitting in the rain all day, started the car and it had a bit of a miss, similar to a cold carburetor engine. I have about a 100km drive home and it didn't really get any better. Still there this morning on my drive to work (it was parked outside last night ). It is less noticeable at higher rpms.

Just looking for some tips on where to start. I seems like a fuel issue to me?

Without knowing much of the car's history I would start off with a complete tune-up.
If it still has a miss after that try isolating which cylinder is missing by pulling the plug wire off, one at a time and see if you can tell the difference. This will work if one cylinder is giving you the problem. If it's bad gas or moisture in the intake system it won't matter which plug wire you pull, the car will run poorly regardless.

What's the weather like right now? Has it been raining? Maybe there is some moisture being sucked in the intake system. Check all breather hoses.

Start with that and then let us know.

Sounds like the pineapple express is giving the P N W a good soaking. You should check out Ivagene's post, water, water etc.

My 84 Carrera was a bit stumbly this morning in the fog. Cleared up when warmed though. I only just got the car so no history to report but I did think I'll be changing plugs, wires and distributor cap soon. Does it not rain in Stuttgart?

Yesterday, raining a lot recently. I will check for moisture in the electrical. Thanks

Seems like an ignition issue to me. Rain has always played havoc over Beru ignition cables since the beginning of time.

Makes me think, can I run my car through a car wash or will it die?

Braid be carefull of car washes. You never know what just went thru there and what is left on the parts that rub all over your finish, chancy. May be the DIY type with the wand if you can't do it at home.

I find that the wipe down to dry out the engine room after washing, helps to keep it clean in there.

Update, After letting my car dry out in the garage over night it is running fine again.

Not 100% sure what got wet and caused the problem. Checked the Distributor cap yesterday and it seemed dry, wiped it out with a little wd-40 and it was still hesitating until I let it dry out over night in the garage.

I will keep an eye on it and see if I can narrow down where the problem was.

Update, So I changed the ignition cables today and WOW what a difference. There is absolutely no more hesitation and after washing the car is ran beautifully!!!

I changed the distributor cab and rotoe about a week ago but it made little difference but after changing the wires everything is good!!!
