Question carbs on a 3.0

I have some Weber carbs that I want to run on a 3.0. The intakes on the engine are larger than the intakes on the manifolds....what is the best way to correct this?

Machine the manifolds or find aftermarket manifolds designed for the 3.0?

Thanks in advance.....

I'm guessing that spacers are available that bolt to your heads, and to the bottoms of the carbs. They are probably 1 or 2 inches long.

I believe that Bruce Anderson feels that the 40IDA is the best size for this engine. Is that the size you have?

Yup, 40s....I have an original 914/6 that I am doing another 3.0 conversion too...

This time I am using carbs and a REAL /6....8^)

Hmmmm, adapters instead of maching the manifolds. Novel idea, but I may have clearnace problems with the air cleaners and the engine lid....

Thumbs up

Contact PMO and get the tallest manifolds that they sell for SC heads to 40mm carbs.

OK, I'm new to the carburetion/physics thing; however, it would seem that adding "1-2 inches" of spacer would affect the 'volume' or 'vacuum' of 'stuff' in the intake (sorry, I told you I was new to this). Would the change be miniscule? It seems it may be significant when comparing 40mm to 46mm orifices, etc.... My trusted wrench just did the necessary machining when we changed my CIS to carbs (no clearance issues on my 2.7). Just curious - the deed is done on mine.

The only problem you would have with the "high rise" manifolds (preferred by motorheads for many years) is space. Will they fit?

Yo Mikey, since when did ya add a 3.0 to the fold? The p-car parking lot is growing weekly eh? Gonna build another "Rocket"?

It's looking like the 914/6 will get a 3.0. I am collecting parts, while it is in the paint shop.

That wimpy 2.0/6 just don't cut it.....since I already had the "rocket", this one may be the "missile".....kinda like Rocket Ismail and his brother from football wide receiver and punt/kickoff return fame....8^)

If you remember, the rocket flared, fire breathing street rod with a beefed up CIS 3.0...this one will be carbed, non flared sleeper.

Hey Mike!

Are you having it cut and sectioned down the middle like those famous (in Germany, anyway) 928 Rabbits? An un-flared 914 as wide as a Hummer might just start a new trend! A six-cylinder, fire-breathing 'sole,' maybe?
