Beast Update - Cog Pulleys

Ok, thought it was time for an update on Beast. It's on the road now and have had a couple of really nice days. As some of you may remember, the latest teething problem was the belt system. The serpentine system I made previously slipped so I decided to build a cog system.

The result is significantly different and she's running really well. I also made some progress of the tunning since its running now so that helped too. I will post more on the running aspect latter.

The website is updated with more pics in "engine-HTD Belts" but here is a peek.

If you look closely, you will appreciate the tolerances. A cookie to the first person to tell me why I went to all the problem of a 2 belt system.

My guess is interference with the decklid.

If not that, how about too much of a lateral load on the fan housing? Or does the belt tensioner get in the way and not allow enough wrap on the fan pulley?

I'm disqualified. Too many guesses.

I can't see the picture clearly, but two belts would give you the option to step up or down the gearing of the supercharger while keeping the stock fan pully.

Glad to see you are back on the road!

welp, both of you were correct. Mostly, it is because of the lateral load on the fan/alternator bearings and secondarily to have the ability to run different ratios. The pictures didn't come out as clear as I wanted but if you look on the website and click on them to enlarge you will see how close everything is and how much work was involved.

Give the cookie to Rarly. He got it in one try.

How did you realize the SC was loading the fan & alt. too much? Did the shaft/fan displace in the housing when the revs picked up?

Every time I look at that motor, I am in awe. Just outstanding fabrication.

How will it perform with the SSI exchangers? Many say the primaries are a little small for bigger motors. Sorry if this has been asked before.
