85 car phone power outlet/cigarette lighter

Without embarassing myself further, I shorted out my cigarette lighter on my 85 carrera cab.

Bought a new, know can somebody educate me as to how in the world I get to that space to replace it. Trunk/bonnett??

Thanks

You get to it through the trunk. You have to remove a fiberboard partion, and then move the air fan and plenum out of the way. There is a Pelican tech article about how to swap your windshield wipers around. It has a good description of how to get this done (with pictures), because access to the wiper motors is in the same area.

Sorry for the dumb question, but did you check the fuse first?

Apology accepted. I realized I left myself open to the fuse question.

It was not shorted out but I replaced it anyway for good measure.

Thanks for the info.

Tony, just a thought.

I just added a 2 hole adapter to the bottom of my ashtray. $10 and about 15 minutes. A much more convinent location. For both detector and cell phone.

If you don't want to put 2 screw holes in your ashtray. Performance/Automotion have some kind of ash tray replacement with 2 lighter holes in it.

I've looked at those. Tweeks even has a 3 outlet adapter that can be mounted wherever you like.

Problem is I have unscrewed the inner housing and now have a hot wire laying exposed inside the outer housing.

Might as well fix what I've got, then pursue other options
