Im getting 2 early 911`s for free on sunday.

My tow truck driver knows an old woman in brooklyn whose husband passed away 5 years ago and she no longer wants to pay for the storage of his cars. They have been off the road since his passing. I am told one is a targa and one is a 6 cylinder . The antisipation is killing me. Its to good to be true that all I have to do is pick them up from only 50 miles away and there mine. My driver has looked at them and said they excellent but he`s not the sharpest knife in the drawer so who knows. I will post pictures on sunday night if this to good to be true situation pans out. Till then my fingers are crossed.

May I have one?

If it's free, I won't be too picky about its condition!

Maybe it'll be the classic (perhaps mythical) 'barn story'.

Good luck to you!

I dont have luck like that so im supposing that they will be junk. Or worse yet not even porsches(but my driver knows my cars well enough to know the difference) . Again the antispation is killing me. He`s calling me tommorrow to let me know what time on sunday morning we are going. Oh yea I forgot to mention what my driver is getting from the deal. Its a 1970 GTO Convertable. So all together its 3 cars. It all sounds to good to be true.

I definetely will be asking if there are any spare parts or tools she wants to unload. Unfortunetely im to nice of a guy to take something valuable for free. If its truly a score I will give her some $ for the cars. Im going to bring $1000.00 with me if thats the case and give her at least a dime on the dollar for them. She told my driver she has the paperwork and receipts for all 3 cars as well. She told him her husband was a car nut. Maybe there will be a 72`911 S like pauls (pwd72s) car in show condition(I can dream cant I ?)

Hey Kurt:

I would be happy to drive up to NY with the suburban and take one of those puppies off your hands.

I've got severe 911 envy.

Post those pictures asap.

So is she giving you the cars, just to get rid of them? Is she rich?

I really hope you aren't taking advantage of some poor old lady who doesn't know what she has.

If she is wealthy and just doesn't want to screw with it, that is one thing, but if she is eating cat food to stretch her social security check, you should be ashamed of yourself.

You are such a nice guy you are willing to give her 10% of what her stuff is worth? You are proud of that?

I like a good deal as much as the next guy, but some good deals just ain't right.

Tom

Cool Story...and I'm hoping for the best. I mean, who knows? Roughly $800 worth of HP brand computer & printer left here tonight in the trunk of a friend's car. I bought it to use just as a word processor. The 6th time it made 2+ hours of typing go in a poof after it told me microsoft works was having a problem and that I "may" lose what I was working on? It was gone...even though I bought it 5 weeks ago. I don't think it's a problem with HP, but a software glitch from microsoft XP. It was never hooked to the internet, BTW. My old electronic typewriter has never been hooked to the net either...and it's still working perfectly. It will be, from now on, my writing instrument of choice for snail mail purposes. So, if I personally don't have a use for them, I'll toss things for free, hell yes, I will! Kurt? Hope it's a happy story for you, can't wait for your follow up post! BTW, don't hold your breath on me tossing the '72S...

Tom from what I understand she is wealthy. Either way im saving for my 3.6 conversion and currentely not in the market for another restoration or two. However offering cash for something thats free should be fair as far as I see it. Besides do you think the junkyard or scrap collector would give her anything. Im hoping these car will be sellable with little or no investment so I can help finance my 3.6 G50 conversion on the R/S clone. If you want to flame me at least wait until I post the results on sunday. Hopefully I will deserve a good flaming if you know what I mean.

Kurt:

You have already proven to be honorable.

When some party offers to give one something for free and one brings some cash along to perhaps pay something for that 'free' thing, one has already shown more sensitivity than most folk. Some might even say you are being too nice.

Good luck on your very exciting adventure and I am sure most of use here await the report. Even if the early cars "only" have nice door pockets you could make out very nicely - or even nice visors! Perhaps Webers or MFI or Fuchs or etc. . . . Maybe even rust free shells and sport seats!

Seriously, I would try to expect something really awful, so if there is something nice you will be pleased.

Please take your camera and share with us an account of your day.

Best,

Another Kurt

Hey, wait a second. Didn't you just score some Titainium connecting rods and a turbo for a song?
Who are you. . .Jerry (everything comes easy to me ) Seinfeld?
Something tells me this story will get better.

It's great you would bring her $omething for them. Although, I imagine she may be happy knowing they're going to a good home, as well.

Not kidding.
You know, that's what I kind of thought too, Tom....
Anyhow, I hope she is wealthy enough to give two 911s away - and a GTO?
It's good that you're offering her some money, I agree. Assuming these are semi decent 911s they're worth, what, anything from $7k (for the two) to like $15+ and more if it's an S. And the GTO?
Many, many people would rip off an elderly women selling her dead husband's cars - maybe a lot of them are junk, of course.
The question is: is right to - assuming they aren't junk - inform the person that they're worth more than free/$1k and offer to help them sell it for something like what they're worth (on Ebay?), as a favor (can't see many people doing that), or just snap them up and sell it for much more? The deciding factor for me would be, is she a truly "wealthy widow" or could she use the cash? I couldn't do it if it was the latter....
Sorry to run you through this moral angle, Kurt, but the subject (i.e., elderly widow sells/give deceased husbands cars for nothing) kind of demands it.

BTW. I put told Tom, who bought your 912, about the car, and recommended it to him when I saw it for sale on the BBS.
