Brumos 73 RSR Reproduction

The guys at Aase Sales have a very special new project underway. Starting with a VERY accurate 73 RS replica, they are deep into converting it into a replica of the 1973 Daytona 24 winning RSR driven by Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood.

Making the project even more special is that it is "Brumos approved" and if all goes to plan, Hurley Haywood will be driving this car on the circuit during the pre-race festivities for the 51st annual Rolex 24 at Daytona. 40 years after winning in a similar RSR, Hurley will be serving as the Grand Marshall for the event. The RSR will also be on display as part of the historic exhibition at the track.

More photos as progress is made.

Very cool. Will you be posting pics of the build?

Why isn't Brumos building the car?

Cornpanzer 12-03-2012 03:45 PM

I will try to post as much as I can.
The car is being built by/for Ron Thomas, owner of Aase Sales. It will go in his personal collection. As he already has a great relationship with Brumos, it was a good opportunity for both parties with the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest wins by a 911 coming up soon.

The original was returned to the factory after the race. It was never seen again from what I have been told. Likely cut up for engineering studies or perhaps re-shelled as another racing car???

Very cool, looks like you epoxied the flares, that stuff is stronger than weld and no worries about warping.
Those Fuchs are a thing of beauty, thanks for installing for photo.
Nice.

MY911S 12-03-2012 04:04 PM

Thanks Dave looking forward to this one. My old 69S had a motor worked on by Aase. Never got to finish the restoration, Macroni took over care and finished it properly.

Cornpanzer 12-03-2012 04:19 PM

Just for clarification, the Aase name has a lengthy and circuitous history in the Porsche world. your engine was likely built by Randall who is still building engines in California. Dave and Dennis did the parts business. Eventually Dennis concentrated on racing and Dave moved to NC with the parts business. In 2011, Dave passed away and Ron Thomas purchased the parts business and moved it to Columbus Ohio. Ron is a contributor on this board and is truly an enthusiast, so the business is in good hands.

Ah..interesting. thanks for the info.

TRE Cup 12-03-2012 04:26 PM

subscribed- this is going to be really cool. Ron has a great eye and definitely goes all the way to get the details right

Very cool Dave. Didn't know this was in the works. Pretty tight time schedule for the race at the end of this Jan. Will be fun to watch this come together quickly.:)

Welding

The RSR flairs are welded on, they have POR 15 over the welds to keep them from rusting or pitting. The project is a joint venture AASE/Kraftwerks. More pictures to come soon.

Did this car ever get finished? Is this the Gregg car that Peter had wider rear flares and 14” wide Fuchs built for?

Here is car 95 currently at Tuthills in England

RT is a super stickler for details on these cars. That Aase build will be spot on and spectacular.
Now how about at least TWO cars purporting to be the Daytona 24H winner - which the factory records listed as Verkauft (translated to salvage?)
There is a black and white picture showing the Daytona winner post race on some hill in Germany.

All true

So I guess there were 2 #59 cars
911 360 0328 the factory prototype raced at Daytona in Jan. Gregg/Haywood 1st

and then the customer RSR chassis #911 360 0727 also #59 raced for the rest of the year

By any chance, do you have pictures of the interior where the rear seats would be?
