911 dash repair
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 911 dash repair-- A lot of early 911's dashes suffer from that unwanted crack right in the middle of the dash. My son has a custom and collision restoration business and I asked him how I could possibly repair the crack in my 72-911's dash. He suggusted I try 3M panel bond & Wurth satin trim paint. First I taped off the cracked area with masking tape as close to the damaged area as possible. I borrowed his panel bond gun and applied some panel bond into the crack area, and built it up slightly above the level of the dash and removed the tape. I let this cure for 24 hrs. I retaped the area so I couldn't damage the dash to far away from the bond. Be careful not to sand thru the tape. I recommend 2 layers of tape. I sanded the area with 180 grit self adhesive paper. Remove the tape to check how the bond is sanding level as to the dash. It may take a couple sandings to achieve the result you want. Then I taped a little larger area and painted the repaired area, feathering out with Wurth satin trim paint. My results are far from perfect, because it's had to duplicate the grainy look of the dash material, but what it looks like now is better than that old nasty crack. Nobody likes old nasty cracks! I kinda have an advantage on some who would like to try this repair. The panel bond is about $50 a tube, and the panel bond gun is $400. If you know someone in the body repair business, you might see if they could apply a tad of bond to your damaged dash and the rest is a labor of love to your car. I didn't want to spent what a new dash pad would cost, so the is the way I went. Good luck with your repair. NKP676801 |

Use two part "bumper repair" to fill the cracks. It is only about $5 a tube and requires no spcial gun. Dickson
