991 Based RSR to Tackle Le Mans in 2013
This is an interesting read I just got from the PCA - Porsche is headed officially back to Le Mans for the first time since 1998 by relying on their works team, Team Manthey, to continue the development of the 991 racer... It looks better than what I anticipated and glad to hear that there will be an official Porsche presence in the world stage prior to the P1 debut in 2014! Here's the link to the article and I attached a few pics below: Porsche To Tackle Le Mans In 2013 With 991-Based 911 RSR

Porsche are lucky that there are people out there with expertise like manthey that keep flying their flag. Considering his DTM history he could have nearly just as easily been called Mercedes Manthey racing.

Now, Porsche has released information on the new 991 based GT3 Cup car, which is only being raced in their Mobil1 Supercup series next year, with an expansion into all other cup series worldwide in 2014. IMHO, the RSR above version looks better and/or more traditional, no?
Details include: The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is powered by a 3.8-litre six-cylinder flat engine. It generates 460 hp (338 kW) at 7,500 revs, surpassing the predecessor by 10 hp. A six-speed dog-type gearbox developed by Porsche Motorsport, which is operated via shift paddles at the steering wheel for the first time in a Porsche brand trophy race car, transmits the power to the rear axle. The single piece race wheels with center mount were also newly designed by Porsche Motorsport. The width of the Michelin race slicks was increased by two centimetres to 27 centimetres at the front and by ten millimetres at the rear axle to now measure 31 centimetres. A newly developed race braking system further improves the excellent endurance qualities compared to its successful predecessor. The 380 millimetre slotted and inner-vented steel brake rotors at the front axle are decelerated by six-piston aluminium fixed callipers. The rear axle features a four-piston version. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1355327662.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1355327682.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1355327696.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1355327709.jpg |
The engine lid has a ram-air effect.

The 2013 991 based RSR has completed testing at Sebring, but it will have to wait until the 24 Hours of Daytona next year for its North American debut - oh well. Here's the link:

nice, the competition is not sitting around ether. Any news on the new 928?
|
The Porsche chairman admitted that for the past 2 years since he's been in charge, Porsche AG has spent approximately $1 Billion each year on new car development, including the prospect of a Panamera coupe a/k/a 928 replacement... Tune in for Geneva...

is there any guesses or drawings on what porsche lmp1 car is to be ?
|
looks kinda like an aston martin and a lotus excige had a baby. But I'm sure I'll come around, it always takes me a little time to like new stuff.
|
so no more "v" bottom engines, only flat bottoms with integrated oil sump?
|
I get the whole evolution thing but for a 100% brand new car I can hardly tell the difference between the 991 and 997. Looks great though, cant wait to see the street version of the GT3.
