Swepco 201 Rotten?

Is there a shelf life with 201, does it go bad after a few years on the shelf in the garage? Thx.

Doubt it goes bad on the shelf. It's still in my tranny after two years and I don't plan on changing it based on time.

I asked a Castrol guy once about shelf life and he said that if the container is tightly closed and stored in a cool, dry place, it should be good for at least five years.

I would not assume it will go bad unless opened. And what could go wrong with it then, oil eating bacteria get into it? Many people, stupidly, leave it in their car for years. And after all, oil has been sitting below the surface of the earth for millions of years. Just my opinion. Steve

I suppose a slow chemical reaction could occur within the bottle and that the additives could go bad.

If the bottle is unopened and has been sitting in a dark, cool place, I would guess it could be used without worry.

If it will last 30k/60k+ miles working in the transmission..it should last many years on the shelf, provided you don't introduce any water, dirt or contaminates to the jug.

great- thanks guys . i have about a quart left in the old container wich has been sitting for about 4-5 years. thought i use up the quart with the new batch. i'm going to pour it out in a clean container to see if there are any contaminant's in the fluid.
regards.

Swepco told Randy Webb that the shelf life was 1-year
Saving your Swepco 201

However an equipment manufacturer that I deal with has informed me that Swepco is telling them 5 year shelf life if unopened.

I hope this helps.
