Solution For Squeeky Hood Latch?
Good Evening All-
I searched the archives and found several people who had complained at one point or another about a squeeky hood latch, unfortunately none of them ever mentioned and fix. Well, I too am now complaining about a squeeky hood latch. I have been living with this squeek since I bought the car, and its hard to brag to your friends about how solid your 24 yr old car is when the damn thing is chirping and squeeking over rough surfaces (which is pretty much all roads here in SE Michigan). I tried a bit of bearing grease, but that lasted maybe one round trip to work. The squeek was back the next day. Does anyone have a more permanent fix that doesn't involve earplugs? Thanks, Chris Bunker 78 SC |
Nobody has any ideas? Are you guys just living with the squeeks?

I adjusted one of the little corner adjusters up. . to take out the slack

Maybe you could bend the tip of the hook a little bit so it doesn't move on the catch?

Way old topic, but I recently just figured out what the REAL problem was. Yeah the latch squeeked a bit, and by backing out the corner adjusters it helped, but the real culprit was the switch up by the hinge on the passenger side for the under hood light. The little plunger and spring were squeeking away with very little movement. A little grease and all squeeks were silenced. NOW it sounds like the bank vault that it is.

Chris,
That's funny, mine did the same thing and it drove me nuts until I figured it out and fixed it! Where are you in SE MI? |
I live in Ypsilanti, and work in Dearborn or Romeo depending on what is going on.
