Anyone have experience installing a brand new FACTORY DASH?
 

I'm about to the point that I'm just going to order a factory dash from Porsche. Since this part has a note that """"The factory dash pads are NOT a perfect fit and may require some slight modification to fit your car"""", I thought I'd ask what is it-- SPECIFICALLY -- that would require "modification" for proper fit?

Anyone have experience with this?

I talked to a Porsche dealer about their dashes and he had said that they had enough of them returned that he strongly recommended repairing my old dash if possible.

Put one in my 81 SC. Fit easily. I can imagine that some of the edges towards the front may need some careful trimming. Mine didn't. It definitely won't be a "one size fits all" that you have to cut around on in a major way.

Have your old dash re-upholstered. Seriously. NOT a fun job to do.

I'll get some calls out to the people who rework these dashes, hoping to find someone who can repair the form-fitted way (no reupholstering for me).

may also require drilling a couple of new holes in the dash base metal . some of the studs in the new dash don't match the original holes. the fit to the door top moldings is usually crappy . big gaps.

Installed a new dashboard on an '87 last month........
 

Getting off the old dashboard ('87) was a lot easier than installing it back. The two (2) studs on top of the driverside do not line-up well with the existing holes. There was a difference about 1/4" for the studs to drop to the holes. No matter how I tried to get them in the hole/s I failed because I didn't have the leverage or strength.

So I had my son and nephew sat in the car and pushed the dashboard forward. It went in and fitted like a glove. You need some persuasion and moderate force to get the replacement dash in place. Take a good look at the new dashboard, there is a groove that has to match the section on the car's dash area. Getting this groove in is the key for easy installation. Start with the passenger side and work your way to the driverside until the two (2) studs slide down the hole/s.
