911 r update on the backdate

Hi guys, been a bit busy lately so couldn't do much car but here a couple of snaps after I put it on its wheels for the first time in 5 years.

Next bit is finish making the interior trim cards , fit them and the carpet.

Hi, its a '75 uk 911 S with fully engineered backdate by my own fair hand.

PS. I hear a uk k jet set up from this car is a desirable thing in the US is that right?

Again, nice job! I'm working on my own backdate with a '77 911 S. Where did you get the rear quarter windows?

I don't know about the k jet setup. I went with a Motronic 3.2 in mine.

wow - looks perfect! i am planning to do the same treatment to my 68 912 (i guess i'm not really backdating however). where did you get the front turn signals? i heard there are repos available but i have only seen the full fill-in fiberglass panel for long hood fenders. i need the correct signals for fg 911r fenders. also, the material on the dash looks perfect - what is it?
thanks for the inspiration, matt

Hi, the rear windows came from a uk company, plastics4performance, you could google them. They were VERY cheap compared to US sourced items . I made my own surrounds before bonding them in.

My motor will be 2.7 on carbs but I have all the original k jet stuff and cams as spares. I was told that US enthusiasts look out for uk spec k jet because it offers a little more power without compromising legislation regarding emmissions?

Matt,

the lamps are from an NSU prinz of 1969 vintage . They are correct for type r. Try the owners clubs mine only cost £25 so $50. The dash is covered in a fabric which mimics alcantara or suede bought from a fabric wholesaler.

Love it! However, the Type-R style logo detracts from the great job you've done. I really think if you must have an "R" there, do the entire "911R" in vinyl with the Porsche-style block lettering. Once again, great job!

Very interesting. Can you provide additional details of how you made your surrounds (what material, etc.) and what product you used to bond them to the car?

Thanks!

IF you like the Honda style "R" then keep it. It is like the Boxster headlights - people know what it was originally associated with and that biases them. If they didn't know, they might like it.

Thanks for the comments.

I used the R from a modern so people who knew would know I wasn't too wrapped up in replication more homage . I like it too.

The rear window surrounds were made from a proprietry rubber windscreen section which I bonded using a superglue adhesive to form a trim. I'll get some details and better pictures . The windows are bonded in with Black SIKA FLEX a polyurethane adhesive its the same as the stuff windscreen fitters use on moderns but cheaper. The marine industry uses it a lot.

That car from rennsport has been part of my inspiration.

I'm currently making door cards and rear 1/4 trims using a product from the sign indusrty called "foamex" its light and waterproof do you want to see more?

I like the modern R. It makes the car special. It's a 911R inspired car - not a copy of a 911R.

I think you may have put it together wrong. The oil tank is not supposed to be on the same side as the oil driver.

Very, very nice.
