1971 911T - storage or rat rod?

It's rough. Needs new floors, glass, misc body work, etc. I have an engine/trans from another '71...

I have room to store it inside for another 20 years vs attempting some sort of "rat rod" restoration. What do you think? Get it on the road for ~ $20k?

Drive it! Cars weren't made to be stored.

Do you have boxes and boxes of parts that came with that car? Steering wheel, interior, seats, gauges, etc.? If not, I would personally take a pass on trying to restore it. You have to REALLY LOVE that car to want to go through all of the effort it's going to take to make it right. Otherwise you'll burn out and drop it before it's ever done. So, do you really want this car as it will be when finished and are you willing to put in the time to build it? Only you really have the answer to those questions.

One other point, if the car did not come with the parts, then it's obviously a parts car that has been stripped of all of its goodies. Its destiny has already been determined. I've seen people try to restore cars like this - ones that others have already torn down, and I have to really wonder why you would start with a stripped parts car. Why not start with something more complete? It will certainly be cheaper in the long run. So, I'd say keep it as a parts car... as it is.

I'd go for rat-rod since you have an engine and tranny. You can then dedicate your budget to body work plus the other parts you'll need (rear decklid, glass, race seat(s), etc). It will more fun to drive then admire as a future project in your garage. Good luck!

fix the rust so that it is structurally sound and then put an engine in it. Drive it.

Otherwise, ship it to me with a title and I will do this.

I second Bristol's take.

That car looks like you are starting at zero. There is no way 20k would be enough to get that car on the road.

You would be much better off selling off the remaining parts and finding a better car that has more bits intact.

At the end of being restored you would be completely upside down in the car.
