My car is a 72 S with a stock oil cooler in the fender. She has almost seen 230 at the track. I thought today I will inspect the front oil cooler. I was not surprized to see it full of muck. Only a very small part of it could of seen any air flow. I took it out of the car. I plug the ends to keep out crap and cleaned it for hours. Basicly by using the wd 40 plastic red thing to poke threw it and then soaked it then more . I then flushed it with cheap oil and compressed air. Then the final rinse 3 cans of brake cleaner. Do think this will get my temps down?

Yes.
You might consider taking the cooler to a good parts/radiator shop for a pressure flush and test (maybe $50). Make sure you put real oil through it a couple of times to rinse out the brake cleaner before reinstallling. You can also cool it off (on the track) by removing the turn signal on that side.

You can always remove the rotor and spin engine until oil pressure and tank level is up where you want it.

????
The oil won't flow to the cooler if the engine is cold, as the tstat is closed. Starting up the engine with the oil cooler empty is not a problem if your tstat is working properly. Just drive it until it's warm, and then add more oil... -Wayne

Thanks Wayne! I allready figured that put BTW. PS Car runs much cooler now. I also cleaned all of the lines. Every thing can get so olily and muddy. Track day is on Friday so all is well. And thanks for the turn signal tip. I may try that if things still are to warm. What they need is a turn signal scoop for us early guys! I dont want to cut a hole in my headlight bucket as It RAINS in oregon. And I have H1 headlamps. Also elephant lines dont seem to come in the 72 size
