Popmec's jay Leno tranny oil

Hi, I own a 76 911s and haven't changed my tranny oil in only god knows how long. It's also tough from 1st to second, and vice versa, just like most antique gear sets. However, today I read an interesting article from popular mechanics by Jay Leno. Apparently he adds a quart of Red Line MLT 70W80 GL4 to his gear boxes, which makes them feel much better. The stuff supposedly has an interesting coefficient of friction, and acts as a synchronizer. Has anybody used it, or think its a good idea? And though its probably been gone over 1 million times, if I use a quart of this, what tranny oil is the go-to for our old German machines? Thanks

How about use in a 2002 BMW, can't hurt can it?

Swepco is the go-to for our cars, you can order from Pelican.

You really don't want to go from 2nd to 1st ever unless you're under 5mph and creeping...and even then, you have to be gentle and sort of "feel it" into 1st.

In case you really want to NOT service your car correctly...be advised...the car WILL let you down at the most inconvienient time!
A guy I worked with bragged about NEVER changing his oil (engine).
But one night his daughter got sick...and he took her in the car to get her to the hospital...the engine seized...on a lonely road...his girl died...I wonder if he changes his oil now?
Machinery is all female...treat it well..it will perform for you...but if you mistreat or ignore...well...how would your trophy wife take that?
Something to consider.

So, in review; do proper maintenance or a girl will die and your trophy wife will be unhappy (and probably leave you, but not in the car the girl died in).

Swepco is what I use, along with gentle downshifts while rev matching (heal toe throttle blipping) and never into first until almost at a stand still.

Also, not married so my trophy wife is never annoyed at all of the time I spend doing proper maintenance on my 911 (to potentially save a life...mine )

My opinion of Redline products in general and doubly so when put into a 901 or 915 gearbox with Porsche's proprietary synchros...

Redline MTL is what I put in my BMW 2002. But a 2002 Bimmer, don't know.

As for the 911: I have G50 gearbox, and I think the PO used Swepco. This winter I might change it with synthetic.

Juan - want to elaborate on that oil? Never heard of it but I know the area code of the money it takes to keep that car on top of the heap so I would be very interested in hearing about it.

I have red-line synthetic in my 924. It feels fine. I would only run Swepco or Kendall in my 911, though.

Gary, i might have gotten the name wrong. Lubrication Engineers is what i think we use. Smells funny but takes a beating. Our gearboxes take a lot of abuse/hard work and it protects them. Keep in mind i dont use a cooler... And we race a long enduros with no issues.
