Open headers or SSI
Hi Guys,
Im trying to decide on what route to go with my exhaust set up. Since im in the Bahamas I have no need for heat. Is there an advantage vs disadvantage of using an open header vs SSI? If I go with open headers what do I have to do with the air circulation> Do i install two block off plates where the hoses went to the exchangers? thanks Adam |
headers are fine, blank off the air exits as this will help the engine cooling. might need a muffler, them engines are loud without them! Also keep the O2 sensor in the headers

How long till the car will rust out in the Bahama salt air, maybe not the body, but the stock exhaust and other components?
Serious question, look at the other cars parked around you, what is the general condition of them? |
headers can be had for way less $$ than SSI, lighter, allows more air flow and cooler engine, did I mention the weight?. No brainer, if I did not need heat I would do headers.

Do I have to change the dreaded oil line when using headers, like the Bursch headers??
|
Ill be lucky if it makes it thru the night....
|
I think you do have to back date the oil lines, not 100% sure.

I live in Fl and have been using headers on my SC for the last 12 years with no issues. You will have to change an oil line or two but the car will rev with ease and run like a beast. I have single and dual outlet mufflers that I switch out depending on my mood. Good luck!
