I was 33. It was in 1974. God, that was more than 33 years ago. Sh--. Da--. Fu--. Oh well, I still have the car, and still have as much fun with it as ever.

Better than S--. The car lasted, S-- didn't. Sh--. Da--. Oh well, I still have the car.

Most ranges you have set in 5 year increments, yet you've set 21-35 in a 14 year increment.
But this is probably where you're going to get most respondents...

Didn't really think about it...Never posed a poll before, just wanted to try it out...

For me 18 yrs old. 1978 SC non sunroof coupe, Grand Prix White over Tan full leather, chrome trim, 16" alloys, Pirelli P7's, crank windows, no AC, sport seats. Now I think about it it was almost a Club Sport ! Dang, should have kept that one !

58, and took a "royal bath" on purchase, but having met an excellent Porsche mechanic through one of the local parts houses in Hayward I can honestly say if I had purchased a Porsche for my first car, I would have nevered owned anything else. Wow, what a thing of beauty, a true joy to drive, but cannot for the life of me figure out why when I beep my horn or wave at fellow Porsche owners, only about 1/2 if that many bother to wave or beep back? Really enjoyed the New Years drive and now would like to upgrade to a 993.

I was 13 years old when I bought (with my own money) my first Porsche in the winter of 1979. My father and I were looking for a car project for us to do before I turned sixteen. There was a 914 on my paper route in Holliston Mass. The owner was asking $500. My father talked him down to $200 (the amount I had saved). We drove it home with no license plate and parked it in our barn. The car ran great, but was sagging from the amount of rust in the floors. We moved to Florida six months later and the car was the last thing that they loaded into the moving van. My father never really had the time to help me with it, so I was left to my own. I spent hours and hours streighting the car out so you could take the targa off and shut the doors. I had no idea what I was doing.
About a year and a half later I was driving the car without a drivers licenses and without plates when a Buick LeSaber t-boned me. I was knocked out and had glass from the other car hit my face. Long story short is that was the last time I saw the car, it was totaled and I got the book thrown at me.

I don't want to encourage behavior like this, but I admire your dedication. Great story!

First Porsche powered Volkwagen - when I was 17 in 1967. First Porsche age 19 - I bought two wrecked halves and welded them together to make a functional 1963/1964 C coupe. Since then, about 20 P-wagons of various models.
