Center fill tank images?

When looking around I see many posts and pictures on center fill tanks and hoods but does anyone have a good set of images, instructions, materials and part suppliers on how to do this.

Thanks,

Dave from TRE is who I would want to talk to. From what I have read and seen, he is the best around.

These are based on using a reproduction cis tank (74-89) that fits all years 1965-1989. We can do it to a repro early tank, but the tube gets squashed down where it is welded to the tank. There is not enough room as the tank is so skinny there

This is also what we offer if you have a competent weldor to install on your existing tank

If someone was to do this to a SC, they probably shave the door on the fender, what would you do for windshield washer?
is there a neat solution to this?

I sourced a old 50's VW tank and cut off the neck, bought a new 100mm cap, had a friend that could weld. You get the picture.

Here's my build thread:

Cutting up my early 911 - project speedster cont.

Ask yourself this question - why does the filler have to go in the center of the hood?

Here're a few we just did on a customer's car ... all steel, hand fabricated trough, hand-rolled lip on the hood with wire inside the roll-over ... purchased reciever for cap from Dave @ TRE:

Dave,
Im backdating a 74. Because I'm on the East Coast, I can't see trying to ship a entire finished repro tank so could you send me a cost on a finished neck and the hood ring. I do have a question though. Alignment is critical, Im assuming you cut the hood hole first?, how do you get an exact neck placement. Im guessing using welding magnet right angles to hold the neck in place while you adjust???

Ed,

I installed a center-fill fuel tank and filler setup from TRE in my '69 911. Dave told me to install the tank, put a thick layer of grease on the rim of the filler tube, lower the hood, and then the location of the filler tube is located on the underside of the hood. I installed the fiberglass drain under the hood and cut the hole in the hood as the last part of the install.

It was hand rolled (pliers and hammer) over a piece of spring steel from a filler-neck boot that was cut to size. Patience and time ...

Good things come around. Ed bought my RSR project I abandoned in favor of an R build and I needed an example of a thru-the-hood filler using a full size spare, early tank............and I finally found it on Ed's thread. Thanks again Ed!

I've been following the recent threads on proper alignment for the center fill, and cutting the hole in the hood...all of the measuring and checking. Then I just read this from Rod (above) and thought, how simple and brilliant!

"I installed a center-fill fuel tank and filler setup from TRE in my '69 911. Dave told me to install the tank, put a thick layer of grease on the rim of the filler tube, lower the hood, and then the location of the filler tube is located on the underside of the hood."

The grease on the rim can no way be exact enough. You could easily be off an 1/8 " or more. I also think its important to cross ref this other thread going on Center-fill hood hole location help

I guess it could depend on how well the filler comes into contact with the hood. If it makes a perfect ring, then I'd think you might be in good shape. It does seem to have worked pretty well on the number 7 car above ^^ (I'm not sure what else he did to make sure it's aligned).
