Is Bentley correct about this?
In anticipation of putting some cams (similar to the ones used by Superman) in my 3.0 this winter, I'm reading up on 911 cam timing procedure. I have both the Factory and Bentley SC manuals .
Question to you who have a Bentley SC manual.... Is the timing procedure as outlined on pages152-9 to 152-11, correct? Bentley seems to differ somewhat from the Factory book, although I may need to read it more closely.

Doug, the procedure is so simple that I'm not even going to look into the Bentley thing. Before my rebuild, I had read and considered the few descriptions I saw, and came to the belief that this procedure does indeed have an inappropriate reputation. Do not imagine this to be difficult at all. You need a dial indicator and the special holding fixture, which you may borrow from me. You fix the darned DI against the spring retainer and adjust the valve like normal. BTW, this is how I like to adjust the valves even with the engine...especially with the engine in the car. so then you rotate the engine 360 degrees and see what the DI says. If it's not right, you move the crank until it is, remove the sprocket pin, rotate the engine back to TDC and put the pin back in. Rotate the engine 720 degrees and see if it's right. You'll be impressed how simple this is. Getting the rocker shafts out is much harder.
And I wish I could be there to see the smile on your face when you drive the car after this transplant. I'm still wearing mine.

What cams did you use, Superman? I'm assuming that your engine is still CIS(?)

The procedure is well documented in the 101 Projects book too...

Doug: What kind of cams? And, are you going to use rocker shaft seals when re-assembling?

I used the fancy 20/21 cams, available from WebCams. AKA 964+ cams. 964 cams work very well too, from what I've heard. And I did use the rocker shaft seals. You'd be silly not to.

Thanks for the info, Jim.
Yes, I will be using the WebCam 20/21 grind. It's just that I probably won't find them for pocket change like you did!
