84 power antenna inline fuse location?
Antenna appeared to be headed south so I ordered a replacement.
After the fact, I put a multimeter on the leads at the unit and found I was getting 12v constant on one, but no 12v "signal" from the radio on the other lead when the radio was switched on. Another post (a 79 SC I believe) stated that the inline fuse was up near the ignition switch. Kind of makes sense since it's probably wired through the ignition so that the ignition cuts off the radio. On the other hand, if that fuse were bad, why would the radio still work? I spent an hour looking for a fuse up there but didn't find anything wired through the ignition. Couple of other fuses, but they all were good. Anyone been down this road before? Kind of obscure - the SCs seem to be different and I believe the next year they went to the windscreen antenna. If there is another fuse between the radio and the antenna it's not obvious. Thanks, Jim |

Spent the day chasing down wires with the help of an Alpine wiring diagram. No fuse to be found, but I tested the antenna wires on the back of the radio and got 12 v there with the radio on. When I reconnected these, I also got power at the antenna. Go figure.
What a pita working up under the dash. |
