Fuel Tank / system clean out
I fear my '74 has sat too long and the fuel system is contaminated.
Has anyone had any success with cleaners / additives / drain / refill? I'm thinking I could pull the fuel line off at the filter, rig up a hose to a can and let the fuel pump empty the tank, then hook back up, fill 'n go.... I do have a new filter for after it's de-gunged. Or...what's the procedure for pulling the tank and cleaning it out properly? Thanks, -C

I've read of quite a few threads where they bring the tank to a radiator shop to have them cleaned. With the CIS tanks you have to be careful, there is a plastic 'swirl pot' inside that you must make sure does not get damaged by harsh chemicals. Also, coating one of these tanks is not a good idea, again because of the plastic pot inside. The coatings may not adhere to the plastic and then will peel off and cause issues.
Removal of the tank is easy after it is drained. Disconnect the fuel level sender, fuel lines, remove the 3 clamps and it lifts out fairly easily.

Thanks all.
I'll have it up on a lift for a while doing suspension soon, so it will be easy to get at all the lines then. -C
