Tires on a 82SC
Hi guys,
Need your help here. 3 month ago I changes my old tires to Toyo R1R on my 911. I have problem that my steering wheel is shaking between 65-75 mph. With the old ones there wasn't any shaking. I try to calibrate the wheels with 3 shops. still shaking. I'm thinking about changing the tires to a better ones. What would you recommend me. Thanks Yaron

How much weight did they use on the balancing? Have they tried to balance them while ON the car? Have you ruled out issues with your front suspension?
Could be loose balljoints, sway bar, T-bar, shocks etc.....

could be water inside the wheel or possibly a broken belt in the tire too.

Hi, I put R1Rs on my 82. They are 205 / 225 on 6 & 7 x 15" Fuchs. Have had no problems with balancing. Look into other areas, such as bearings and balljoints, as sometimes changing to tires with more grip unveils hidden problems.

Thanks guys. I'll check other parts on the car and see what is the problem.
Any simple way to do it?

Put it up on a rack and start wiggling stuff.....spin up the wheels and look for wobbles....

Did you find the source of the problem or are you just throwing money and parts at it? Really hard to tell you what else to get, without knowing the diagnosis of the problem.

Symptoms like this are typically a bent wheel rim.

When they were mounted and balanced...did the shop use a road force system ?...This system works much better than the old style balanceing systems

I'm glad you are calling it "upgrading".
![]() I think I may have given an idea in the wrong tire thread. Since you seem to have shaking through the steering wheel.... With the car stationary, can you turn or move the steering wheel up and down, do you notice any abnormal movement in the steering wheel? There's a bushing that wears out. Maybe it has and the new tires are amplifying the problem.
