I'm trying to figure out what this cover is called. It's located behind the engine up against the back seat. I assume it's to help protect extra heat coming into the rear of the car.
Mine is the original and it's falling apart. How complicated is it to install a new part behind there? Is there a new design nowadays or still the old foam style that I should look for to replace this? I'm planning on vacuuming every bit that falls off the original as I remove it. It just melts over my hands as I touch it, seriously. It's like tiny beads of foam. The car isn't running and I'm getting it back to driving condition. So it's not a hazard at the moment to repair. Thanks.

Heat pad, sound pad, etc. There are hundreds of threads on this subject:

I would not call it a maxi-pad regardless of size or sound absorbency.
