I understood it, too.

But are you sure you want to give it a neutral gender?

das = neutral
Der = male
Die = female

All the same word with different meanings regarding gender.

Masculine -- "der"
Feminine -- "die"
Neuter -- "das"

I have no clue which form of "the" the Germans would use to describe their car.

However, if you used, "Die IXXI", I image quite a few Americans may ask why you want to kill poor ixxi?!

Zuerchers,
The trim piece is called a "cap", the number is 911 555 422 00 and the color code for black is 01c

Gender tip

If I'm not mistaken the correct gender for an automobile would be masculine. "Der1XX1"

Yup.

Now guess what "Madchen" (girl) is.

Mark Twain did a great story on German:

heres a link to a german to english translater. you have to select "german to english" from the drop down menu. it states that "the car" is "das auto" in german.

Even though "auto" is neuter, Porsche is a proper noun, so the rules change.

Example:

Der Porsche 911

Die Porsche 911 Story

Go with whatever you think sounds good, but I think most Americans will understand "der" or "das".

Does removing that trim plate give you access under the black plastic piece that runs along the top of the door?

I was asking about this yesterday as my Drivers side door lock is not flashing red and they said a wire attaches under the openning on that black trim piece.

once you remove the trim "cap" you will find two screws. you really dont have access to anything at that point. you need to remove those screws, then pry off the concealing plug at the rear of the trim panel and remove the screw found behind that plug. then you can remove the trim panel by lifting up and over door lock pin. it takes about 2 minutes and you should have all the access you need to find the wire.
