1973 911T MFI died and won't start
Hello All,
Been a long time since I last posted, thankfully the car has been running ok when I would drive it. Took it out of the garage today after sitting for about 2 months and drove it around the block a couple times. I noticed it was bogging down a bit and backfiring. Pulled onto my block and the car just died. I put it in 2nd, hit the gas, and the whole engine cut out and died. I tried restarting and it turns over, but never catches. I thought it was gas, but I filled it with 2.5 gallons and that registered on the gauge. I can hear the fuel pump when I put the ignition into ON, so I think that's ok. I haven't done the "fire/fuel/air" test fully yet, thought I'd see if there was something common to look out for. Thanks for any help! |

I'd look at the coil or the points as being your likely culprits.

Thanks Jim,
Can distributors just go bad like that? Last edited by jbt308; 12-19-2012 at 02:17 PM.. |

Start with the points as mentioned. That is the weakest point that can die quickly and suddenly.
I put pertronix in mine to get away from this type of thing and it has been great for many years.

I put in a Pertronix, too. Points can go bad, coils can fail. I had both happen on my old 73E.

Check to make sure your mfi drive belt didn't snap. Do you hear the high pitch whine from the cdi box?
