Replacing windshield on 82 SC

My windshield took a rock today and will need to be replaced. However, I am wondering if the newer windsheild from an 86+ Carrera will fit. I would like to use the in-windshield antenna instead of the power antenna on the fender. Is this an easy replacement (i.e. plug and play)?

I replaced my seal about a year ago. I do have the integrated antenna.

Not sure on the fitment, but you will need an antenna amplifier...

You might also need to drill a hole for the antenna wire. Not sure on that either.

I don't see why a later style windshield wouldn't fit though...

Good Luck!

It is my understanding that the newer windshields physically fit the older cars. The glass installers I have worked with report that the later windshilds are more difficult to install because of the antenna. Don't know why though.

I was looking into the same thing. Everyone I spoke with said the windshield will fit. You also get to use the seal that eliminates the trim molding.

The down side is you are left with a hole in your fender and the windshield will cost you over twice as much. I also understand that it is necessary to drill a hole in the winshield frame to pass the antenna connection through. You will also need an antenna amplifier to receive a signal. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat2.gif

Actually, the windshield will be replaced by insurance. As far as the hole in the fender is concerned, for the time being, I would leave the antenna in but just disconnect it. Instead I would run the windshield antenna to the stereo. I have not heard about drilling the hole for the windshield antenna wire. Can someone shed more light on this. Also, more info about the antenna amp would be helpful. Thanks.
