Which seats should I re-cover for my '82 SC?
I still have my original beat up seats (not sport) sitting in the corner of the garage, plus a newer set presently in the car from an '86 that have better bolsters and are very comfortable, but which also have tired leather.
Should I re-cover the stock seats or the newer set? Can the stock '82 seats be built up to have better bolsters? We have a couple of very good auto upholstery shops nearby that, if anybody could customize the fit, they probably could. Leather is twice the price of good vinyl, so that's another dilemma. Talk to me!

I bought a set of non sport seats from an 86 and love them so much more the the stock 84 seats
Staying with the stock seats will not give you increased value for your car if that's what you're thinking

Hmmm
, usually staying with "stock " components will keep a much more appreciative value than with whatever else (even if it's from a newer model) , I think that's just the way it is in the market place. But, you should recover the ones YOU like . Either seats and their patterns in vynl or leather (complete or partial, because some came with seating surfaces in leather & sides/backs in vynl which BTW are usually the newer style 1985 & up unless specially optioned to be ALL leather). The older 1978 to 1984 were complete leather IF they were optioned for leather & if they were optioned for vynl they usually came ALL vynl) Either case they are readily available. I did my 1982 in OE complete leather (seat sufaces, sides & backs) because that's the way they came as per option code, besides that.... I found a supplier at the time (Mr Interiors/Autocraftinteriors.com) had the "exact" pattern & colours with correct colour(s) & texture (I mean near perfect really) for a great price back in 2008 IIRC. It wasn't that complex to do but required patience to do right (no pleats or wrinkles because of keeping originals with wires & all else to go by visually). They came out great! Wish I took pics. @ the time anyway, you can do it if you're crafty, if not there are ALOT of awesome upholstery folks who do beautiful work on Porsches out there. Just my 2 cents worth of experience

I switched to the later ('85+) seats also, and would not switch back. They are more comfortable, and I suspect the higher headrest makes them safer as well.
