Long awaited upgrade did not increase performance !

I finally got this beautiful tach back from North Hollywood. It looks great and works perfectly ! However no increase in top speed or acceleration were noted

And if you want a screamin deal on a really nice "stock" tach with NHS shipping box and lots of bubble wrap - it is listed in the for sale section!

Man, that wheel and dash looks sweet.

I would put a couple of Carrillo or Hazet stickers on the front fenders behind the wheel - down low Always good for a couple of tenths.

PCA7GGR 12-21-2012 04:10 PM

Time to replace your "butt" dyno.

The steering wheel and tach are worth at least 20 butt hp - ;>)

Reiver 12-21-2012 04:25 PM

Looks great, racer look so lose the clock....that's what your cell is for.

mpetry 12-21-2012 04:51 PM

I have been thinking about replacing the clock - what do you suggest, big oil pressure light or flat back block off plate ?

Years ago on ebay I saw someone offering some genuine "RS" clock plate - I think they wanted $125 for them.

I just bought a claimed "genuine Porsche" clock block off plug. There are 100s of used clocks on Ebay. Maybe I'll make a stand and use it as a desk clock.

Leave the clock...love the whole setup.

Almost 200k on that bad buy....nice

Leave the clock. IT's cool. Love the analog old skool look. It fits. Or get it done up chronograph style....

frankc 12-21-2012 06:15 PM

Mark,
Do you know what style wheel that is? I had planned on getting a Momo, but I think I like that one better.

Reiver 12-21-2012 06:22 PM

Get the pop in block off....not like you have to throw it away...try it both ways. Looks more purposeful without it.

I might be wrong but that is Momo. Don't know style

I think it's the 930S wheel: Pelican Parts.com - 930S Steering Wheel

fanaudical 12-21-2012 08:15 PM

Looks great! If you're tired of the clock, you might look at a dual CHT gauge for that location.

Ah, yes. I knew I saw that wheel somewhere before. Thanks for the ID and link - I'll put this on my list.

HJT911 12-21-2012 11:05 PM

Mark,
can be replaced by original clock within minutes

Leave the clock, balences out the dash.

mpetry 12-22-2012 08:37 AM

Yes, that is a 930S steering wheel.

Of course the Heuer chronograph mounted in the dash is cool - like this one from the Singer. But I think I'm going with the block off plate.

Anybody know where Singer got these done ? Like their interior parts, it is very cool. The "sport chrono" on the current 997 cars seems a little over the top by comparison.

Jerome74911S 12-22-2012 11:58 AM

My clock keeps perfect time, that's what it's for. The cell phone is buried somewhere down in the door pocket - why would I want to grope for that just to learn the time?

Reiver 12-22-2012 12:55 PM

what, you can't look at your wrist?

Jerome74911S 12-22-2012 01:05 PM

My wrist is too busy steering like mad, trying to keep the engine in the back.

Put a yellow tape strip around your wrist ( like the 12 o'clock wheel tape) then you can read the time when you cross 12 whilst you madly manipulate the tiller....perfect.
Clock, no clock.....looks great either way. I like the minimalist approach to gauges.

yes, that is way cool. But does it function? I'd hope so, otherwise it's kinda gehy.

I'd also go for the head temp gauges. May as well put something useful in there.

Evans, Marv 12-23-2012 06:57 PM

Come to think of it, you might be able to incorporate an oil light in there with them.

Jim Richards 12-24-2012 05:12 AM

I had a voltmeter put into the tach on my old 73E hot-rod.

Not a great picture:

Why am I not surprised...

...that Mark Petry has to upgrade his instruments?!!! Can't fly without 'em!! R/Dave L. Happy Christmas to all, and of course to my old shipmate, Mr. Petry!
