Advise Please

Hello, I have a 2007 Carerra S with 15K miles. When starting ut runs a little rough until it warm up. What amount should I expect to pay for a complete tune up including al fluids, filters and spark plugs at a Porsche Dealer??. Also as the car 's battery is the original, should I have Porsche install their own battery or what battery could one buy at a local auto parts store. Thank you

RioRita, first welcome to the Pelican forums! As to your question (s) you are on the wrong forum as this is for the older oil/air cooled 911's. You need to post this on the 964&993 Technical Forum, here is the link: Porsche 964 & 993 Technical Forum - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

Good luck and again welcome and Merry Christmas!

Don't let people bust your balls " they are right about the forum.
But as we all know the 911 forum is by far the busiest with participation.

Check the other forum and try Rennlist as well. If No luck just
Come back and say you tried...and still haven't found a solution and
Some guys will jump in.

Forget the high priced Porsche battery " have the old one tested or if it's older than 4 years
On a driver " get an optima or suitable replacement at a parts store. Batteries are maintenance items .

Merry Xmas"

Porsche batteries are crap and overpriced ... just take the old one to a large auto parts chain and they will match it with a much stronger and cheaper priced unit !

As far as tuneups go,please don't go to a dealer ... find a good reputable Porsche shop in your area and get to know and trust them with your vehicle !

Cheers !

Hi, welcome to the best Porsche BBS on earth. As noted above,we are air cooled here I but in addition to visiting our water cooled forum here, you should visit Rennlist here: 997 Forum - Rennlist Discussion Forums

For late model cars the busiest place is Rennlist, I would ask both here at the Pelican 996/997 Forum (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-996-997-forum/ ) and at the Rennlist 997 Forum - 997 Forum - Rennlist Discussion Forums

I see you already posted in the Pelican 996/997 Forum...

Hey RioRita, welcome aboard. I have a'06 C2S and I personally find the renntech.com forum the best site for later cars. Chime in on the 997.1 section. Yep, stay away from Porsche batteries. Go to Walmart and get one for one third the price and superb warranty. And don't get paranoid about all this friggin IMS (intermediate shaft bearing issue). Drive the car spirited, maintain it well and enjoying. Cheers.....

Battery

+1
Auto manufactures do not make their own batteries. The decal on the battery does not mean that it it's a 'genuine Porsche part. Just purchase a quality battery, the correct group size, including the right cranking power for your temperature zone. Ask for the date of manufacture date on the battery- Anything less than 6 months and newer is 'fresh'.

There are only a few battery manufacturers - Johnston Controls is by far the largest manufacture of them. Keep in mind though that all batteries are not equal.

Optima Battery's is a high end battery but are not necessary for normal use. If you need a battery that you need to mount on its side or run a VERY high end sound system that you use when the car is not running these batteries are for you.

If you purchase your battery from Porsche or say Mercedes you will often pay a lot more just because that's just how they charge- Both barrels at close range.

My personal pick would be any of the following in any order:

Sears - DieHard very good
Interstate - very good
Delco - very good
Costco - (Kirkland) very good.

3 Battery Manufacturers and their Battery Brands:

Delphi - AC Delco and some EverStart;
Exide - Champion, Exide, Napa, and some EverStart; and
Johnson Controls Industries - Diehard (Sears), Duralast (AutoZone), Interstate, Kirkland (Costco), Motorcraft (Ford), and some EverStart.

Battery Stores that Sell Very Low-Priced Car Batteries but sometimes No-Install:

Kmart
Target
Trak Auto
Wal-Mart
Sam's Club

A battery is considered ‘fresh' if it is less than 6 months old.

Look for the manufacturing date. Most date codes are stamped on the battery case or label. Important battery information usually starts with 2 characters:

Letter - indicates the month (Example: A is January; B is February; C is March...), and
Digit - indicates the year (Example: 9 for 1999, 0 for 2000, 1 for 2001...)

I do not about the newer Porsches but alot of the newer Mercedes have gel batteries which I have not seen in the aftermarket yet. I'm sure eventually there will be if they are not yet available so it may turn out the OP might not have any choice but to go with factory. Again, I do not know the 997 very well but I do MB since I've been a Benz advisor at a dealership since 1999 and before that at LandRover. Just like there are some independents with good reputations there are dealerships with good reputations as well. Just like Phil (Wildcat) said "find a reputable shop and get to know and trust them", who's to say that can't be a Porsche dealership?

If I were you I would use the forums mentioned above to find a respected Porsche mechanic in your area rather going to the dealer.

where are you located - I think a local indy P-shop could resolve your trouble and get you started on a maintenance program plus develop a relationship for those times when something unusual pops up

My shop would be happy to help you and would almost cetrainly save you money over a Dealer.....

OH last Q
is the car CPO? if so a trip to dealer would be the right move

rough running on startup could be a coil pack even a loose oil filler cap
