Question regarding gauges?
 

Greeting from Ontario, Canada. I have recently acquired a 1976 912E, the guages I need assistance with are the fuel & temperature (seperate). I have some fogging issues around the base and outer perimeter.

Is there a DIY fix or can they be repaired - re-sealed to eliminate this?

Also, will the gauges from a similar era Porsche work? Some gauges I have seen for sale from a 76 or SC appear to be dual function, ie the fuel and oil pressure are combined, can these work for me?

Also, will the tach work with a 2 Liter engine?

If the gauges are fogging then you have moisture getting behind the dash! You need to find the leaks in the chassis first then you can remove the gauges and dry them in the house. Once dry and the chassis leaks repaired you can reinstall them and your problem should go away!

Thank-you jeffs9146, I will look for the possible leaks and give this a try. Any ideas why the other gauges appear fine?

I have this happening now with the car in storage for the winter. It is only happening with the tach. During the driving seasons I have had no noticeable clouding of the perimeter of any of the gauges.

I had/have the same problem. In addition to the fogging, I had a small leak near the glove box. Ended up being rust around the perimeter of the windshield - the rust was hidden by the seal.

Hope that's not your issue, but it's something to consider. Best to get to early rather than later.

With regards to removing the gauge, there's plenty on the forums on how to do it safely; I just haven't gotten around to it myself!
