Cool BigBig Ride/ It's Over

The 911 was put in it's crib yesterday at 7PM...17,946 miles dancing around the NorthWest and drying out in the SouthWest. I left home on April 29/haven't figured how many days yet. I met some wonderful Pelicanheads and had some extraordinary experiences..the simple pics I took became more valuable today when I put them prespective after returning home to metro NY..the 911 still has beginning spark plugs and valve adj.. was lucky to drive such a great car/no problems...I have to write those people I didn't get to see and explain why we didn't meet..for instance, I missed "cary" when driving thru Montana because traffic thru Missoula was very slow and I would not be able to get to his area till late evening..the local knowledge I asked for AND RECEIVED made for a special ride..I did the driving, but my friends on this board made the ride very special. I will do my best to answer any questions, and critique any impressions I had from this ride and the places I visited..............Ron

Ron -

I am fascinated by this trip. I hope to hear more about it. Are you going to post some pics of the pelican heads you met. As well as some scenery.

Cool

BigB..I have some simple pics and great stories..I just need some time to get my act together on this BB again..I have not adjusted to being in metro NY yet..I still feel like I belong out there in some forest..sleeping in a bedroom confuses me now..let me say that getting up for the 3 AM wizzz ain't what it used to be..the ride was a man's ride. I don't think many females would take the beating or put themselves in the possible danger just for a chance to live thru the ride I just had..it was not a fun ride, it was an exciteing/extraordinary ride..the 911/the driver and a new chapter opening up every day..simple cave man action....A solo ride that constantly puts the 911/the driver to a test every day. A ride that leaves no time to let your meat loaf..priceless.

.............Ron

Ron, my guess is you'll remember that ride for a lifetime. I don't think there's a Pelican around who isn't jealous of the experience.
Too bad you could not stop here in the Central Coast but I can understand that you can't stop everywhere. With your writing skills you should put it all down on paper before you forget the details then share it all with us chapter by chapter. Gotta be some great stuff in there.
It's also a great testimony to the durability of a 911. Post some photos when you get a chance.

Cool

On May 21 after being wet and cold for a few days in northern Idaho in an area Superman told me to hit, but it was well worth it, I decided to try Montana and try to find dryness. If not then go south [again] to dry out..this was on the day I missed meeting "cary"..I am on I-15 comming down from Montana and heading for Arizona.....that leg was about 1,104 miles from N. Idaho then east to N. Montana then south thru Montana to Zion Nat'l Park for a days rest..I needed a 2 hr. car nap on that one...I had to take this pic..at 7 PM before nightfall...I think it is unusual and beautiful..........Ron

That sounds like a fabulous trip! I would love to have the time to do something like that. I particularly like the camping out along the way. I am sorry I missed you when you were in San Diego.

Somebody recently wrote a bestselling novel called "A Walk in the Woods" about walking the Appalacian Trail. This sounds far more interesting -- when is the novel coming out? Seriously, you should at least write an article about your trip for Panorama. I think a lot of people would be interested in reading about your adventure.

I particularly like this story because it proves 911s are not garage queens. I spent a long time worrying about my 911 being reliable but have taken to driving mine daily and it is a great durable car. Should we have a Pelican One Lap of America with 911s only?

Rich

PS: I can't believe that somebody else on this board remembers the movie and TV show named "Then Came Bronson"

The "why"??? Well, I know Ron has his reasons, and that's his story to tell if he chooses to. But really, why NOT? Ron, I repeat, HOME RUN! I'm happy for you. The South Santiam Canyon is still there...and the old MacKenzie Hwy is now open!

Cool

I'll be able to answer some points a little at a time...Cegerer..the ride was aimed at experiencing the NorthWest to the max. I did the ride before the tourists chased the animals away..the NW was wet and cold, but the forests were people free..I was the only one in the campgrounds..I wanted it that way..I've done big rides before and knew what I wanted..When I got too wet I would go south to dry out in a desert, then return to a home base..did this again and again...the home base turned out to be a special part of a NW forest..it was in a mountain area that had a different climate than 1,000 ft. higher or a 1,000 ft. lower on/in this mountain area..The pic is from inside my tent looking thru the forest..a river is just beyond the trees..my sleeping bag is on the lower part of the pic...this is what my mornings looked like..this is what I awoke to..I went to sleep listening to the river...Rich911E would love this unique spot..it was like a temperate rain forest there..I returned to this spot many times after leaving for a few days to visit other places..I can't say the exact spot because of a privacy issue concerning the NW people..I was lucky to be there at the right time...and the animal I was sleeping with was a concern..if I'm the only food in the campground I'm in danger..the animal made his presence known and I was sleeping with a shotgun and using my flashlite at nite to scan the forest for cat eyes..I wanted to be in this campground and a confrontation was not my choice..but if it happened then "let's dance"....I will address everyones posts ASAP...also this ride belongs to everyone who helped me before I started this ride and walked me thru it..making it a fantastic 911/people/forest experience................Ron

Ronnie? You think perhaps nobody responded to this latest pic because it's too surreal?
