Well, I'm having a devil of a time with something so easy it should have taken me 20 minutes. Of course I can rebuild a nuclear reactor in an hour, but installing a steering wheel has taken 3, and it isn’t finished yet!!
I bought a 930s wheel, and I can't get the damn thing installed properly. I have the wheel mounted (no problem), but to do so required that I take apart the horn assembly. This required removing the metal rings and pulling the plastic insert. I'm not sure if this is describable, but I’ll try: The first metal ring is installed on the round plastic insert with 3 screws. The second metal ring is spring loaded, and is installed with 3 screws/plastic grommets. I’m hooking the short horn wire to the first metal ring (with the connector that angles back into the center of the wheel). Three screws are installed at the 4 o’clock, 8 o’clock and 12 o’clock positions. I can install the ring fine with the screws at the 4 and 8 o’clock positions, but when I install the screw at the 12 o’clock position, the horn goes off. This, and I haven’t even hooked up the wire to the second ring to activate the horn! The 930s installation in the tech articles doesn’t have a picture of the horn ring assembly (apart), so I must have something screwed up. Any advice, pictures, or anything else would be most appreciated. I’m dying to get this installed before my next business trip!!

Michael-
I'm not at home, so I can't post any pictures, but can offer so thoughts, since I did the 930s install fairly recently (and have had it on/off several times since). My horn ring assembly comes out as a single unit, held into the wheel by chrome screws. It pops into the wheel using the plastic insert you described. (You were correct about the 4, 8 & 12 o'clock screw alignment). To remove it, I undid the 3 chrome screws and pulled straight out - both rings stayed together as a unit. FYI, my self cancelling apparatus is on the left side (headlight flasher stalk side) - just to make sure that you've got it aligned correctly. I will try and take pictures when I get home later.

took a couple of pictures of my 930S wheel. the plastic ring serves to insulate the screws from the wheel. I noticed that when I was unscrewing them, when they were loose and touched the horn ring, it caused the horn to honk.
also, the shorter wire goes to the top connection and the longer one to the bottom. I think that both rings need to be held together with the black screws and the chrome screws hold the entire assembly in place on the hub/adapter ![]() ![]() hope this helps

Thanks Steve! I finally got it figured out. After being electrocuted about 20 times, I decided to disconnect the battery and put everything together.
All's good, and boy do I love the wheel!!!
