2004 911 Hood latch

Hey there! I bought my husband a 2004 911 4s for christmas, and for the life of us we can't get the hood open! The battery IS NOT dead, and we can hear the mechanism whirring when the unlatch button is pushed. All of the fuses are good, and he took apart the passenger side wheelwell to try and find the release cable, with no luck. How in the hell are we supposed to get it open? I have already contacted the closest Porsche dealer, and they were of absolutely no help. Before I trailer it 400 miles to the dealership, does anyone have any suggestions? Help!!!
