Airbox question on my 2.7 turbo

I just fiished rebuilding my motor on my 76 2.7 and have a question. This car has a Turbo that was installed back in 77' and upon starting te car the airbox blew out. The new one that I put on has the pop off valve to protect this from hapenning again. Now for the question.

It seems to me that the boost that the turbo is building, and going into the trottle body is going to escape out of this "pop off valve". Am I right in my thinking?

Also at what point should I be getting boost?

thanks
Oscar

You shouldn't have the pop-off valve on a turbo car. It is designed to vent the intake manifold.

Turbo cars cannot backfire in that way. If they backfire, they will backfire into turbo-compressor and not into airbox (if you think of it as box that air-filter lives in, mated to CIS).

Turbo cars don't have that problem.

yes, but on the 2.7L there was alway the problem of blowing out the air box.

On this car they took a 2.7 Cis and added a turbocharger. The boost goes into the throttle body at the top of he CIS. The reason I put the pop off valve is that on start up my box cam apart due to a backfire. Now I am thinking that I shouldn't have put it on.

suggestions?
