87' starting/running problems...

I have read what i can find on the boards and have done a decent amount of trouble shooting to try and get the car fired up...

First let me tell you of the setup.
87' 911 3.2 with G50. I know thats vague, but...

Was driving home from purchasing the car, Miami - NYC and started having starter problems when would stop and get gas or food. This just made things a little more difficult on our drive as we had to push start it to get moving which was really no big deal.

Once in SC the car studdered a bit and then about 10 minutes later the car completely died. The car had plenty of gas in it, so I knew it wasn't that.

What i have found so far now that i have the car back in my shop...
  • When attempting to crank, the fuel pump does not run at all.
  • Fuel pump will run if i put 12v to it.
  • Try to crank while 12v to the pump and car still wont start.
  • Fuel pump fuse #6 is still in good shape.
  • Info I find on fuel relays states that they are the first 2 in the box but not according to the diagram that came with the car. diagram states that "G" is open, "F" is booster fan and "E" is oil cooler fan.

I have talked with a specialist and they tell me it could be a DME relay, head temp sensor or a rev sensor...

Any input on what it could be or what to trouble shoot next and how to do it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
Bill

Always start any weired running problems with a 3.2 Carrera with a new DME relay. It's under the drivers seat :)

Everyone here calls it the "DME relay", but it's really the "DME/fuel pump relay". Try the advise above mine.
