Help what goes here

Recently acquired a 1984 carrera 3.2 when detailing it came accross this plug in the centre of the roof behind the sun visors with two small screw either side. It looks like a base mount for a rear vision mirror but my car has the rear vision mirror affixed to the windscreen. can anyone tell me what seems to go here my sun visor brackets are all in tact so I don't think it is for them. I have searched on here and google didn't help.

All I can tell you is that my 82SC does not have one. Looks like a rivet for the headliner (?). Is your car a Targa?

That's the early housing/boss for the auto-heat temperature sensor (later ones are found on the face of the dash to the right of the steering colum).

Hi,

I had the same problem, but I managed to find a sensor. Without it you will probably find that the auto heat just goes to maximum.

Another pelican has been working on making a replacement, I think he has identified the right thermistor.

Hi,

It is a rather lengthy thread on the autoheat, but looks at the cabin sensor near the end.

Automatic heater control unit repaired -- 70 cents!
